I'm not quite sure where to put this question, so I will
try this forum.

Most of you know that my son is running for city council in his community, Naperville.

This just kills me: He has had several people call him and walk up to him, asking about his position on abortion. What? A city councilman?

I don't know what he is answering. He is pro-choice. What would you say?

1. Hi--I know there is a VERY outspoken leader there--perhaps it is his influence.
An associate of his has been focused on our high school and the "gay" issue here. T

I would say: "I am pro-choice". I believe there is a large minority, maybe the majority, that has been silenced by this kind of person and might just be ready for some progressive leadership. I wish him well. (I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago.)

2. Every pregnancy should be a chosen one.
I fully support a woman's right to choice.

If he feels like he needs to elaborate he can discuss the fact that from a public health perspective it makes perfect sense to offer comprehensive education about the reproductive process, that we have sad experience with the "just say no" program being a complete failure. If we want to reduce the need for abortion we have GOT to make contraception available, understandable and affordable for everyone.

Good luck to your son in his race. I never cease to be amazed at what people ask about in local races.

3. Honesty is always the best policy.
He should just answer truthfully.

4. I'd be honest. But...Naperville is a tough area.
It's full of wealthy conservatives and Bush lovers.

Best of luck to your son.
