Rep. Mark Kirk suggest shooting Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn because of higher taxes.
The Chicago Tribune reports today that Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) is considering running for Illinois governor, saying his interest is the result of “so much corruption in our state.” Responding to reports that Gov. Pat Quinn (D) will raise income taxes to patch a crippling budget deficit, Kirk suggested shooting Quinn:

“I think that the decision to raise taxes by 50 percent in Illinois is political suicide,” Kirk said of Quinn’s proposal to raise the tax rate to 4.5 percent from 3 percent, coupled with an increase in the personal deduction. “I think the people of Illinois are ready to shoot anyone who is going to raise taxes by that degree.”

Last June, Kirk mistakenly referred to then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) as “Osama,” saying that he supports a policy “where if we see Obama there’s a shoot-on-sight order.”

This has got to stop!

1. I think that if a high school kid suggesting shooting a teacher
or said that his fellow students were ready to shoot a teacher who assigned too much homework, that kid would be facing serious penalties.

If I stood in line at an airport and spoke about shooting someone, I wouldn't be flying any time soon.

What makes Kirk any different? This is not simply rhetoric and he should answer for his comments. MAKE him apologize, like all those republicans did when any or our guys stepped over a line they determined. They make Durbin apologize. Kirk needs to apologize.

The governor of Texas needs to apologize, too, for his secessionist remarks.

3. Can we arrest this jerk?
This seems much too close to ordering an assassination.

4. This jerk plans to run for the governor's office in Illinois. n/t
I am going to be seeing Quinn tomorrow night. I don't think I will be able to do any more than shake his hand and say hello. He will be speaking to us not listening to us ... I think. There will be other opportunities. Maybe I can remember to bring this up. Or maybe by the time I see the governor again, there will be new and urgent topics. I guess I am going to find out soon how he treats the grassroots leadership.

5. Nah...he's still aiming for Senate
Guv is pure speculation. Guv still needs to shake out on both sides, but Lisa's the best best on the Dem side (especially if she has a public fight with daddy and manages a perception that he's not relevant).

Kirk wants a six year term with continuing safety, not a four year term. He's not a leader and he knows it.
