11. rats, rats, rats!!!! my secret went bust.

i was sort of led to believe that jan schakowsky was going to announce for the senate today. but she didn't. she says she has given herself until june 8th to decide. she did say that she has gotten a lot of positive feedback as well as positive polling all across the state.
i was in a room with almost 2000 supporters, mostly women. some of whom paid almost $5k to be there. there were quite a few elected officials there, and party chairs from all over the area. it looked like quite a base to build on.
but no announcement. foo.
i do think she will run. for what that is worth.

12. I was just reading a rumor that Lisa Madigan was going out for the Senate seat

Something about the Democratic party not wanting a primary challenge against Quinn so she is setting her sights on the Senate seat.

If that happens, Jan is in trouble since the machine will back Lisa.

Jan would be the better candidate, Lisa will go along with everything Reid wants.

13. interesting fact from the event.

when jan spoke one of the first things she did was read off a list of other office holders that were in attendance. the only one who was on the list but not there was alexi giannoulis(sp?). he has already declared. i don't think he has a chance against her.
i don't think lisa would do well. she is too identified with her old man and old time chicago politics. jan has her problems, but....
from the speech she gave, i think she is in there. seems like the only thing holding her back was her seniority in the house. but even that, i got the feeling, just goes into the -do it now while i am still young enough- bucket.

The Sun-Times' columnists have some interesting scuttlebutt on the 2010 U.S. Senate field today. Lynn Sweet published the results of a poll featuring select match-ups. While she doesn't say who exactly commissioned the survey or what firm conducted it, we do know this: It came from a "Republican interest" and was conducted on May 7. Despite these mysterious origins, it gives us the first look at what the prospective Democratic primary field would look like with Chris Kennedy in the mix:

Jan Schakowsky: 20.0%
Alexi Giannoulias: 16.4%
Roland Burris: 15.9%
Chris Kennedy: 12.7%
Undecided: 35.0%

That Chris Kennedy is related the THE Kennedys.

You think this is Kirk spending money on a Dem poll? Sizing up the competition?

i would say he is in a position to take a shot at it as he is supposedly a "moderate", whatever the fuck that means. i say good, jump on in, pal. burn up your money running for a seat you can't win. let some nobody run for your seat so dan seals can kick your ass. (dan was there, too.)
jan did say that she has been polling, and has good support all over the state.
