My son is in the early intervention program, and attends a joint EC/EI preschool in the chicago suburbs. Yesterday, he graduated (YAY), but at the end of graduation, the principal informed us that funding for the students in the Early Childhood/At Risk block grant program have been completely eliminated for next year in the proposed budget. The early intervention program is still in tact, as funding is handled differently and mandated for that. The EI Program caters to children with special needs and developmental delays).
Honestly, I have not had a chance to look everything up - but if this is the case, it's truly devastating to the kids and families in desperate need of access to the Early Childhood preschool program. She's encouraging everyone to write to Governor, and ask him to change this line item. Of course it will impact jobs in our school district, but more importantly - the children who will not be allowed to return or enter the program next fall.
