For the third time in five days, the Sauk Valley Newspapers in northwestern Illinois have ditched polling results which they didn't like, and re-asked the same poll question with slight word changes.
First, the Sauk Valley Newspapers in North Western Illinois scrapped the a poll which resoundingly showed that Americans wanted Gitmo Bay detainees to be brought to justice!
Then they ditched a poll which asked if Gitmo Bay detainees should be housed at the Thomson, Illinois prison.
And now they have ditched THAT poll, and re-asked the same question... again... with slight language changes: ''How do you feel about the possibility of military trials being held for terrorist suspects in Thomson prison, if the feds bring Gitmo detainees there?''
Yes - the question IS different - but, let's be honest, it really isn't.
Why does it all matter?
Why this paper?
Why these polls?
It matters because the Thomson prison is located in the very same area in which the Sauk Valley Newspapers draw their readers.
For several years, now, the Thomson Correctional Center, a super maximum security facility in North Western Illinois, has been sitting vacant.
The state of Illinois, additionally, has a budget deficit in the tens of billions of dollars - which is why the prison has been sitting empty.
The location where this prison is located has an unemployment rate of over 13%.
Bringing the Gitmo Bay detainees to Illinois would finally afford these prisoners their day in court, as well as bring needed jobs, and revenue to the area.
