What Would A Ten Percent Across-the-Board Cut do to Illinois?
EDUCATION • 10,000 children will lose access to early childhood and special education • 15,100 teachers will lose their jobs • 15,000 low-income students will lose access to an affordable, quality higher education • Communities will lose adult education and training offered by community colleges PUBLIC SAFETY • At least 400 State Police Officers will lose their jobs • The Office of the State Fire Marshall will be completely eliminated • Millions of dollars in federal emergency management funding will be lost ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INFRASTRUCTURE • Renovations of thousands of roads, bridges, hospitals, libraries and schools will end • 7,400 road and building construction jobs will be lost • 50 meat inspectors will lose their jobs, threatening the safety of our food supply • 425,000 senior citizens will lose access to home heating and cooling assistance • Over 10,000 small businesses will lose marketing, financial analysis and IT assistance HUMAN SERVICES • The Illinois Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired in Jacksonville will close • The Illinois Center for Rehabilitation in Chicago will close • Those with developmental disabilities will lose access to all non-medical programs • Up to 60,000 vulnerable seniors will lose access to Community Care programs
CONSERVATION & THE ENVIRONMENT • State parks, historic sites and museums will close. • Water system upgrade loans will be eliminated; threatening water supplies statewide. • Leaking Underground Storage Tank, Household Hazardous Waste and aging gas tank cleanup will end
