Consumers should have enjoyed cheaper grocery bills through the holidays. According to a national supermarket survey by the American Farm Bureau Foundation, food prices dropped 4 percent during the last three months of 2004.
The cost of 16 basic grocery items totaled $38.87 compared to $40.38 during the third quarter. However, fourth-quarter grocery costs were $1.44 higher than the same period in 2003.
Bacon costs declined 41 cents per pound during the final quarter followed by a 31-cent per-pound decrease for russet potatoes. The price for a gallon of whole milk dropped 25 cents to $2.98; cheddar cheese, down 18 cents per pound; and a dozen eggs and a pound of apples, down 18 cents."
This is a great general article about soybean rust pervention and it goes into some detail about droplet sizes, but I thought the grocery part was quite interesting.
