- Tonight's Show

DENNIS HASTERT (R-IL)
Speaker of the House of Representatives

Thought: If the rethugs could target Daschel, let's throw our energy behind the effort to unseat Hastert. Are there any viable candidates?

2. no there isn`t a canidate
that can beat denny and here is why-----his district is solid republican. and more to the point the democrats don`t want him voted out. i always wondered why they didn`t back the last guy to run against him and then i ran across an article where the democrats need denny to back some important bills that will effect illinois-mainly the o`hare expansion.
i live in denny`s district-the people in his district will never vote in a democrat

4. Yeah, as much as I hate Denny and think he is a thug...
having the Speaker of the House be from your state can be a very beneficial thing. Plus, there are other congressman that are much more vulnerable (Weller, Johnson, Hyde's district, even Kirk and Biggert). We should focus on them first. Then if we take them down, we can concentrate on Hastert.

7. Do you really think Weller/Johnson are vulnerable?
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 06:31 PM by tritsofme
I just can't see those districts voting Dem.

However a post-Hyde (IL-6) could go Dem with the right candidate.

10. I'm in his district, too. (Elgin)
This district is big time Republican. While many R's that I have for neighbors are old school R's, not NeoCons, people here see Hastert as the kindly, old, small town wrestling coach that he was before he got into politics.

Even if some people think there isn't a lot of traffic here. :eyes:

I guess they didn't get the alternative purpose of your post.

8. If you can't catch this show,
rent Star Wars and check out Jabba the Hutt. You'll have the same experience.

9. I've heard rumors that Denny is retiring
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 10:03 PM by stevebreeze
but I have heard that before.

One more rumor, Madigin is grooming Linda Chapa-Lavia to run against Denny. Linda's not bad, but I hate the idea that she owes Madigin.

p.s. I am in IL 14

11. Dems in Hasterts district
Do you think it would be effective to at least call his office to
express opinions about his representation of all in his district.
We should at least do a telephone blitz every so often just to
keep them on edge and in check.

12. I could only watch about 15 minutes of it last night.
It was the same ole, same ole from Fat Denny.

Social Security needs to be fixed, the Dems are using this for political reasons, blah, blah, blah.

He also kept mentioning the fact that he taught economics when he was a high school teacher. I thought he was a wrestling coach.

In my experience in high school, coaches of any sport that taught any subject matter were usually the worst teachers in the school.

Oh yeah, he does resemble Jabba the Hut..

14. Safe Harbor Law courtesy of Hastert. He was always
in the lunchroom with the CEO at the company I worked at in Aurora. The Wall Street Journal published an article with a title something like "A Fear and a Fad" around 1994 dealing with a fruit drink (fad) and carbon monoxide detectors(fear). A secondary public stock offering had to be called back and I was refunded about $1900.00 because representations were made that looked like a loser to the company if they had to defend in court. The stock went from $19 to about $2.50, so I would have lost a lot if the threat of a law suit hadn't forced the refund. Hastert and the CEO were not happy that they lost their payday so he passed the safe harbor law to protect companies from lawsuits when news releases are not accurate. Always looking out for the BIG GUY, that Dennis is. I always HATED him after that.

13. The last time I called his stooge tried to tell me I lived in
the 16th. Probably because my message was that I would like Denny to show the courage that Nancy Pelosi showed in calling B$$$ wrong on the Iraq War. My wife just got a form letter yesterday saying there was no need to get bills out in time to be read before they are voted on. The three day rule was a carry over from the past when they had to be sent to the printer, now they have fax machines. I wonder why they don't know what they are voting on then.

Our county (Kane) just hired a 140K lobbyist who used to intern for Hastert the bastert. Rushed through by the new county chair, who apparently knows Hastert personally. Meanwhile we can't even afford a backup power supply for our county offices. Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I think the whole situation is a steaming pile of sassy, and the best thing to do is find a willing Dem and paint the 14th blue.
