That's what I've heard since Tuesday's column about Kmart's limits on razor-blade sales. But as it turns out, even Kmart is unsure of the policy.
The column told how a Peoria shopper went to Kmart to buy a glass scraper, which uses single-edge razor blades, and a package of replacement blades.
The checkout clerk asked the age of the middle-aged shopper. The clerk said patrons younger than 18 can't buy razor blades, which are "used for drugs."
The manager declined to talk to me. But a Kmart source confirmed that razor blades are on a list of items for which the store may request proof of age.
The whole thing seemed weird. The policy implies drug sales and abuse occur only among people younger than 18."
You have to read the whole article. The ending is priceless.
