I'd like to say thanks for everything you did. You know, the whole saving the Union and ending slavery thing. Too bad your political descendants have forgotten just about everything you stood for. Happy 196th!

2. Yes, even though Lincoln was a Republican

and the Democrats back then supported slavery, it would be interesting to see how the political figures of the Civil War would sit in today's political culture.

It's good Lincoln didn't screw up during the Civil War.
