1. WHY do they always ask for best foreign film?

Seriously, how many of us do they think have actually seen any of them?

I almost picked Jamie Foxx for the twofer, but I doubt they'll do that. And I think this is the year Martin Scorses gets his "respect" Oscar.

2. Usually I would disagree with you on that one

but this year, it's like WTF? As a critic for my school's newspaper, I see my fair share of foreign films and I can't believe the ones that were nominated. The only one I've seen is "The Chorus" from France. I think that "A Very Long Engagement" was a better French movie. I thought "The Return" from Russia was a fantastic movie and it's not on the list. Maybe it wasn't selected by Russia to be the rep or maybe it came out in '03 and I just didn't get to see it until '04.
