"CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a queer Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.

Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.

Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."

"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."

Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents."

Alan Keyes is such a terrible father let alone everything else. He should speak for the Illinois Republicans whenever he wants.

These were NOT private posts
There seems to be a lot of confusion out in Blogostan about whether Ms. Keyes'
blog posts were "protected" or public. She does write shortly after her father
announced his US Senate candidacy that her site was "indefinitely going
protected."

She posts this statement because, she says, she had received e-mails from people
wondering what had happened to her. She had already taken the site down, and was
simply posting a public update.

I'll still keep parts of it public, I just need a little while to decide
which to make public, which to keep protected, and which to just keep private.
So please be patient for a couple of days (I'll be in Chicago from today until
Tuesday, so I won't get to this till after then. And I get to see my Jerrykins
there!!! ) and when I get home again I'll get to un-privatizing this place.


Apparently, what happened was she put the site back up. She continued linking to
her blog on her Yahoo! e-mail profile and she used that same e-mail address to
post on a Keyes campaign website.

So, spare me the "this is private information" crap. All of it may have been
private at one time, when Ms. Keyes took down her blog, but she eventually re-posted everything that we can see as of this minute. And she re-posted that
info AFTER her dad became the official US Senate candidate and then wrote about
Keyes campaign events on that same blog.

A 2001 report by the Wilder Foundation on homeless youths in Minnesota found that, statewide, 15 percent of those ages 10 to 17 identified as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Of that group, nearly 7 percent said they left home because of their sexual orientation.

Fortunately, a pastor at his Unitarian church arranged for a couple to take him in until he could finish high school.
