News Advisory:
Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. will make a special visit to Metropolitan Family Services South Chicago Center on Tuesday, Feb. 22, to meet with South Chicago program staff and present a check representing a $100,000 federal grant he helped secure to support and expand Metropolitan's Young Fathers Initiative. Rep. Jackson recognizes the challenges many young South Chicago fathers face -- that's why he helped secure $500,000 in federal funding over three years to support the Young Fathers Initiative, a program provided by Metropolitan Family Services to strengthen a father's relationship with his children while offering financial education, job readiness skills and job placement.
"South Chicago is full of dads like the young men in the Young Fathers Initiative. Metropolitan Family Services has taken an innovative approach to engaging these young men, increasing their skills, strengthening their support and giving them the tools they need to succeed. An involved father contributes to the physical, emotional and financial well being of his children and family," said Jackson, who is the father of two young children.
