Chicago Sun-Times: So many primaries, so little turnout

"The suburbs are some of the largest and most interesting in the Chicago area -- Aurora, Waukegan, Cicero, Berwyn. And the issues are the ones voters say they care most about -- education, taxes and crime.

But despite all that, most election officials expect only 10 percent to 20 percent of the 621,633 eligible voters to actually come out to vote in today's suburban primary elections.

"I'm hoping for double digits," said Robert Saar, executive director of the DuPage County Election Commission. "We've had lower. It just doesn't seem like there is any interest."

Some election officials even question whether the February primaries should be scrapped altogether and all the candidates forced to run in the April election."

2. LOL, Don't be so happy about it

Is Weisner some kind of DINO or Republican? I know can't he can't be a 'DINO' since it's non-partisan, but still.

3. Weisner is one of two Democrats in the race

Three Republicans. Weisner is the Democrat who stands the biggest chance of being in the runoff in April, but he has Chicago Machine backing and is gerneally a jerk.

As far as non-partisan goes, there is no such thing. Non-partisan simply means hidden affiliation.

4. I voted.

I vote in every election, anyway. But I was kinda looking forward to this one, since I'm running for a township office, and I was kinda disappointed to learn that I wouldn't even be on the ballot until April because all four Democratic spots in the primary were filled. If there were five Democrats running, then the race would've been on the ballot, since it's an at large board. But as it is, it'll be four Democrats against four Republicans in April. There was only one race on the ballot in my precinct, Highway Commissioner. The Democratic nomination for mayor was uncontested, and so is the aldermanic race in my ward, so nothing there. But I figure it's not only my right, but my duty to vote in every election. People have died to give me that right, so it's only fair that I exercise it.
