How could the Illinois State Fair be improved?
Fair game
The State Journal-Register wants to know how you think the Illinois State Fair could be improved.
E-mail your thoughts and ideas - wild and wacky or perfectly serious -to: features@sj-r.com, subject line Improving the State Fair
Be sure to include your first and last name, contact phone number and city or residence. Your idea may be included in an upcoming story. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. March 11.

I saw this on the State Journal-Register's website. I thought some people might want to E-mail them and we could get our own conversation here started about the fair.

It's certainly not perfect, but I don't know if I would suggest any huge changes. I love funnel cake, real milkshakes, visiting the Democratic Party booth, and the free concert that the Illinois State Symphony gives on the last night of the fair.

1. It used to be the Chicago Symphony Orchestra
that gave the free concert. I don't know if you were around for that. Then they moved the beer tent next to the grandstand. The CSO, perhaps the greatest in the world, had to stop playing and wait for the garage band in the beer tent to quiet down. They didn't return after that year. Maybe that's something to improve.

2. Well...
They could always try booking bands that were popular AFTER the 70's. That would be a good start. I really don't think they need another "fried stuff on a stick" booth.
