Not just South Bend. D'Arcy didn't even have the cajones to show up.

Despite the nearly weeklong controversy surrounding the commencement ceremonies at the University of Saint Francis, Saturday's event truly belonged to the graduates.
Although there was the occasional mention of the eleventh-hour decision by university officials to rescind an invitation to scheduled commencement speaker and Fort Wayne-native Dr. Nancy Snyderman, most of the speeches and reflections focused toward the future and away from the events of the past few days.
Snyderman, a surgeon, author and former ABC medical journalist, had been hours away from leaving her California home when university President Sister Elise Kriss sent her a letter by fax, informing Snyderman she would not be the commencement speaker because of her perceived pro-abortion views.
Instead of Snyderman, Rolf Daniel, professor and chair of Saint Francis' psychology and counseling department, gave the commencement address at Memorial Coliseum on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

D'Arcy, head of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Roman Catholic Diocese was to have received an honorary degree Saturday but said last week he would not attend the ceremony to avoid being divisive.
D'Arcy had provided information about what he believes is Snyderman's position about abortion - citing reports she had done while working as a medical correspondent for ABC's "Good Morning America," as well as books she had written.
Snyderman has maintained those reports were scientific and not injected with her own personal beliefs about the issue.
During an interview Saturday, Kriss said her decision to uninvite Snyderman was met with mixed reaction but said she had received a lot of support.
