Drinking Liberally & Indiana Democratic Club updates

Hey everyone. Haven't been around in a bit. Life has a way of becoming busy when it is least convenient.

1) Drinking Liberally This Week
Our normal Drinking Liberally will NOT be happening this week (our normal Thursday night). I'm going to the Pacers Playoff game and most of our regulars are planning on watching the game in some fashion or another outside of Drinking Liberally.

2) Drinking Liberally Next Week
Next week is up in the air for two reasons. 1. If the Pacers go to six games, game six will be next thursday (can't David Stern schedule the playoffs around US? :) ) 2. I finally found out when the Indiana Young Democrats meet and it happens to be next Thursday.

3) Indiana Young Democrats
For those 35 and under who want to join the IYD, their membership meeting is Thursday May 5th at the Rathskellar (downtown) at 7pm. I would assume interested parties could come and join as well. As this is the same night and time as Drinking Liberally, I'm taking a poll of those on the Drinking Liberally mailing list if they would want to move DL next week to Wednesday or move it downtown to the Rathskeller to take part in the IYD meeting since most of our regulars could also join IYD.

3) Indiana Democratic Club
Our April meeting is TONIGHT at 7:30 pm at the Julia Carson Center, 300 E. Fall Creek Parkway, 2nd Floor. This month's speaker will be Indiana AFL-CIO president Ken Zeller.

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend and a good last week.

So now for the news, there will be a Drinking Liberally this week. The Pacers *will* be playing at home that night, so I'm sure our numbers may be more sparse due to that but the game will be on at Union Jack's for those that want to watch.

So let's get together, root on the Pacers and talk about the state of things in Indiana politics. With the legislative session over, there's certainly alot to talk about.

And finally, stemming from something a few of us discussed at the last meeting: if you know of any clubs, groups, etc that are progressive/liberal/Democratic in nature, bring their meeting time and contact info. (Groups such as DFA and Democratic Party meetups, MoveOn groups, activist groups, anything with regular meetings and membership).

The goal myself and a few others have taken on is to send out feelers to these groups and let them know about the Indiana Democratic Club meetings. One way we can make the IDC better is to get at least one or two people from all of these groups that have formed over the last few years to become members. We can then stay up on what the other groups are doing, form alliances and work together when needed. We don't need to put "and now to hear from the DFA meetup..." on the agenda - even knowing each other socially via club meetings will allow us to work together in a way that is missing in Indianapolis.

This will also have the added benefit of adding members and new blood to the IDC.

So with that in mind I bid you a fond farewell (until Thursday, of course).
