Gov. Joe Kernan said Friday he would support the reimportation of cheaper drugs from other nations -- if Washington doesn't take steps to lower prescription drug costs by March 1.
Kernan, a Democrat running for election to his first term as governor, made the pledge as part of a campaign "Action Indiana" plan he released Friday.
"It is a crisis here in Indiana as well as across the nation," Kernan said. "It is important for us to take control if the federal government does not."
The challenge adds Kernan to a growing list of governors who are considering or implementing plans to help their residents buy cheaper drugs from Canada and elsewhere. That now is illegal.
