Indiana lands Honda Automotive Plant...
Greensburg, Indiana

Honda will build a alf billion dollar automotive plant in Indiana.

All the politicians are crowing...

Funny how the same politicians always told use that we needed to get away from manufacturing and become a service economy. So why do they crow so much when something as lowly as a car making plant comes to town?

I thought we needed the jobs of the future?

My two cents.

1. That's very true.
They are all about how outsourcing manufacturing isn't a big deal until something like this comes along. After Mitch went over there, I thought for sure the deal was dead. I thought he was going to creep people out and they'd RUN from Indiana. :)

2. The U.S. IS becoming a service economy
and we do need workers trained for "the jobs of the future." However, there are some manufacturing jobs left to be had, and, frankly, it is our bitch Mitch's job to get as many of them to come to Indiana, and stay in Indiana, as he can.

If you remember your U.S. History, switching TO a manufacturing economy did not happen overnight. Switching FROM one won't happen overnight either. We DO need to recognize and prepare for a service economy. At the same time, we have thousands upon thousands of displaced manufacturing workers in Indiana alone who need work now. I'm glad 1500 of them will get the jobs they need.

Everyone involved in pushing this deal forward absolutely should be crowing. It should be bi-partisan crowing.

My two cents.
