I-69 Toll Road Meetings June 29th! Please attend! (HOT!)
Subject: I-69 Toll Road Meetings June 29th! Please attend!

PLEASE POST AND FORWARD WIDELY. THANKS!

I-69 Toll Road Meetings, June 29th!

Please attend and speak out!

We recently found out that there will be a series of meetings on I-69 that
will center on making I-69 a toll road. INDOT did not properly notify the
public of these meetings so we have little time to prepare. They also
scheduled them during working hours so many people can't attend. It is clear
they don't want public input. All the more reason to give it to them. If you
can attend any of these meetings please do so and be blunt, but polite: No
Toll Road, No I-69 of any kind.

Please attend the meeting in your community.

Commissioner Tom Sharp was quoted in an INDOT press release: "...we are
moving at warp speed..."

Unfortunately what is being warped is our democracy. It is time for citizens
to straighten this mess out.

1. I can't help but notice
that these meetings are never held in towns along U.S. 41 that would be adversely affected by a new-route I-69.

2. Is it too late?
I woke up to Morning Edition this morning to here that an Indiana toll road has been PRIVATIZED!!!
:wow:
It looks like it's a done deal in Indiana. They're bitchin' a storm up in Texas about this, too. The government wants to use emminent domain to make room for their privatized I-35 (more below) and the natives are pissed!

Governments Sell Roads to Raise Cash

Listen to this story... by Kathleen Schalch

Morning Edition, August 23, 2006 · With the encouragement of Washington, local and state governments are privatizing roads. Chicago has leased its Skyway to an Australian-Spanish firm for nearly $2 billion. And Indiana has leased its entire toll-road system to the same company for nearly $4 billion.

Isn't I-69 supposed to be a part of the new NAFTA Superhighway?

Here's the official website:

Here's an article to read about it

3. Of course not
They only want to hear support for that waste of money. Why use the cost-effective solution?

4. Question from an Ohio visitor...
...who lived in Indianapolis for a few years.

What was the upshot of this? Or is it still being discussed? Also, whatever happened to plans to extend 69 down to Evansville? When we moved back to Ohio in 1997, that was beginning to be discussed. I, personally, thought it was a good idea.

(Miss Indianapolis greatly, by the way...)

5. They were discussing it long before 1997
When I started college at U of E'ville in '88 they were talking about it. Then I started traveling to the Indy area from there and still do. No matter which way you go, it is at least a 4 hour trip if you follow posted speed signs :eyes: so I also think it is a good idea if done properly. I'm 36 now and don't think I will see it in my lifetime.

:hi: from Indiana!
