Former Democratic congresswoman Jill Long Thompson today will make official what has long been expected: She's running for governor.
Long Thompson has scheduled announcement events for today in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, and plans to travel to Evansville and Terre Haute Wednesday. She joins Indianapolis architect Jim Schellinger and Senate Minority Leader Richard Young Jr., D-Milltown, who also are seeking the Democratic nomination and hope to take on Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2008.
Long Thompson said she is running on a promise to "reinvest in Indiana."
"I know that we can create good-paying jobs here in Indiana with good leadership," she said Monday.
