Kelty indicted on nine counts
Republican candidate for mayor charged with perjury, fraudulent election filing


An Allen County grand jury indicted Republican mayoral candidate Matt Kelty on Tuesday, charging him with seven felonies and two misdemeanors.

Kelty, 42, is charged with two counts of perjury, five felony counts of fraudulent election filing and two misdemeanor counts of commingling campaign and personal funds, special prosecutor Dan Sigler said.

Last month, Sigler requested a grand jury be empaneled to explore the issue of whether Kelty broke the law in how he reported $158,000 in loans on his campaign-finance reports.

Kelty was taken in handcuffs to the Allen County Lockup, where he was released about 1 1/2 hours later on his own recognizance. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison on each felony charge and up to 180 days in jail on the misdemeanor charges.

1. I caught some talk on WOWO

I caught some talk on WOWO (Fort Wayne's right wing talk station) about this yesterday afternoon. The righties were boiling mad over this, ONE CALLER EVEN SUGGESTED THAT THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN SOME DEMOCRATS ON THE GRAND JURY!! The horror, the horror.

2. The sight of handcuffs

It was amusing to see the handcuffs. I was astonished to see the results of the Grand Jury in light of all the Repubs in this area. I'm tempted to send a letter to the editor of the JG listing all of the recent Repubs who have been implicated in various crimes across the country (thanks to the top 10 list on DU) and end it with Matt Kelty. As for the WOWO crowd blaming Dems...they should probably start with Steve Shine.

3. Top 10 Conservative Idiots

I just sent this to EarlG for the Top 10 Conservative Idiots list. I hope not too many of us did the same; no sense in overloading the guy's inbox.

Although, would anyone even be interested in this since (for once) the crime for which the Republican was being arrested was not related to sexual misconduct?

Hopefully, details of intern lust or male page predation will follow. I mean, what is a story of Republican malfeasance anymore without the sweet pungency of sexual harassment or pedophilia?
