What is a Bush Dog, in one sentence?

Bush Dog Democrats are Democratic members of Congress who enable the right-wing through their support of Bush's policies on core progressive values at key moments.

What are these core progressive values and these key moments?

Currently, we're using the capitulation vote on Iraq back in May, 2007, and the disgraceful vote to give Bush warrantless wiretapping powers as proxies for Bush Doggedness. We think that if you voted for both of these, you are an enabler of Bush's policies.<snip>

Why are you doing this? Why are you criticizing Democrats from conservative districts?!? You're a bad Democrat!

First of all, the 'I've voting my district' argument doesn't hold. There are basically no districts where the war is popular, and warrantless wiretapping as an electoral issue moved numbers against Republicans last cycle. These members are not voting their districts, they are just conservatives.<snip>

2. As a volunteer for MoveOn

As a volunteer for MoveOn I made 130 telephone calls last election, the majority of which were in behalf of Donnelly. Living just a mile and a half south of his district my local TV stations are out of South Bend. (I知 represented by Dan Burton) Being able to talk about the local news made my calls very effective, I知 sure I accounted for 10 to 15 votes that he may not have gotten otherwise.

I知 not at all happy with Donnelly, but as an incumbent I知 sure he値l get enough payola from the special interests that he値l be able to hire hacks to campaign for him next cycle.

In the 2004 election cycle Dan Burton spent more money at one golf course glad handling contributors than the democratic candidate was able to raise; in a twist that you couldn稚 make up in a cheesy novel the golf course is named Purgatory. (Just north of Noblesville on highway 37)

3. What's the difference?

Support for this Presidents policies are inexcusable, on either side of the aisle. Last November, I busted my hump to get people to vote for Joe Donnelly. I went door-to-door for 3 consecutive weekends in the run-up. On Election Day I supported the party by being a poll-watcher, and Donnelly by making calls from a local phone bank. I damn sure didn't do all that to continue the Iraq Occupation, or to further trample our Constitutional rights.

I posted this information to let Hoosiers in these 3 Congressional districts know what their Representative is "accomplishing" now that they are in D.C. This post, in no way, should be misconstrued into an endorsement for GOP challengers. It is meant to educate the constituents so they can, in turn, contact these legislators and let them know how they feel about their votes on these issues.

I recently spoke w/ Rep. Donnelly and voiced my displeasure w/ his vote on the FISA Amendment. He told me, to the effect of, "It will be brought up again in 6 mos. at which time we can work for a better bill". I told him basically, that I was watching his votes and that his office will be hearing from me.

This post is nothing more than a warning flag, for their constituents. It basically says we need to watch these guys. They were elected by us to represent us...not some Congressional caucus they've found themselves entangled in once they got to Washington.
