By John Byrne Post-Tribune staff writerThe Hillary Clinton presidential campaign ran aground on the inhospitable shores of Lake County politics.
And Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. drew Bill Clinton's shouting ire as the former president watched a tardy Lake County vote count undermine his wife's much-needed Indiana primary win.
We know because the Old Gray Lady says so.
In a Sunday front-page story picked up by newspapers around the world, The New York Times contends Lake County's long delay in reporting its vote totals the night of May 6 struck the fatal blow to the Clinton candidacy.
Barack Obama had already beaten her that day in North Carolina. And Clinton couldn't announce a victory in the Hoosier state to counter it, because Lake County's vote count dragged on past midnight.
