Afghanistan is a lost cause. This is a waste! We need our Guard here, at home!
200 Indiana Guard soldiers heading to Afghanistan
Indianapolis - About 200 Indiana National Guard soldiers will be deployed to Afghanistan later this year, while about 45 others will head to Iraq.
The soldiers going to Afghanistan are from the Indianapolis-based 38th Infantry Division Headquarters Company. They will help provide housing and training for American soldiers in Afghanistan as well as assisting the Afghan government with security, construction and agricultural projects.
Staff Sgt. Jeff Lowry says the deployment will last no longer than a year. The soldiers will report to Camp Atterbury for training before heading to Afghanistan in the middle of the year.
Meanwhile, about 45 soldiers from the Indianapolis-based 939th Military Police Detachment will be deployed to Iraq in the middle of the year.
