Noblesville - The family of a 21-year-old Marine from central Indiana says they were informed that he was killed Saturday in a traffic accident in Iraq.

Cpl. Donte Jamal Whitworth joined the Marines after his 2005 graduation from Noblesville High School.

His mother, Carla Plowden, says Whitworth was scheduled to come home later this month. She was told that he died in a crash near Al Taquddum Air Base, about 50 miles west of Baghdad.

The Defense Department did not immediately confirm Whitworth's death.

Plowden says her son commanded supply convoys hauling goods between U.S. military bases in Iraq.

She says his body is expected to be returned to Noblesville on Friday and he will be buried in the Hamilton County community.

Whitworth is the second Hoosier serviceman to die in a week. Private Zachary Nordmeyer was killed in a firefight in Balad last week. His funeral is Friday.
