Greater Indianapolis for Change endorses Health Care Reform Action
Greater Indianapolis for Change endorses Health Care Reform Action. Our Health Care Action Team believes that meaningful reform requires a public option to compete with private health insurance plans, in order to bring costs down.

Senators Snowe (R, ME), Baucus (D, MT; Chairman, Senate Finance Committee) and Nelson (D, NE) are proposing that consideration of a public option alternative to commercial health insurance should be delayed until we can find out if insurance companies can figure out how to expand coverage and reduce costs. This is a thinly veiled attempt to kill the public option. It makes no sense that the insurance industry, whose policies are responsible for much of our problems with health care, has a real stake in real reform except to protect their ability to maximize profits at the expense of public health.

Please act on this. Call Senators Bayh and Lugar, or send them letters or emails. Let them know that the reform we voted for requires a public option.

Some senators say they may support delaying creation of a new public health insurance program to first find out if private insurers can do enough to expand coverage and reduce costs.
