Terre Haute - Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse will be sent to Afghanistan in July as a member of the Indiana Army National Guard.
The 45-year-old Plasse is a master sergeant in the Army and will be deployed from Camp Atterbury with other members of the 38th Infantry Special Troops Battalion. It will be his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, following a one-year deployment in February 2006.
He's scheduled to leave July 9 following two weeks of training and one week off.
During his absence, his job as police chief will be filled by Mark Eldred, the department's chief of operations.
