Rader/Eyewitness NewsCamp Atterbury - Soldiers at Camp Atterbury are gearing up for deployment to Afghanistan. They'll be on the front lines in the war for hearts and minds of the Afghan people.
The training is ongoing at Camp Atterbury. The mission is to protect America's interest wherever it may be threatened. For the 19th ADT that means Afghanistan. ADT stands for Agribusiness Development Team.
"We are there to help the Afghans improve their quality of life so they don't have to turn to somebody else like the Taliban to 'give them a better lifestyle,'" said Lt.Col. Dan McMillen.
Eighty percent of the population of Afghanistan is involved in agriculture. The long-term goal is to help Afghans connect with their own government. Many of those preparing to deploy in just a matter of weeks listened Tuesday night as President Obama referred to their mission specifically.
"We will also focus our assistance in areas such as agriculture to make an immediate impact on the lives of the Afghan people," said the president.
