Mayor Ballard and his Philippines born wife Winnie always have time to go on shopping trips around the country and the world, while the rest of us have to deal with diminished public services and a much higher murder rate. I can't wait for 2011 to get rid of this moron.
Privatization could be 2010 trend for Indianapolis
Updated: Jan 01, 2010 6:50 PM EST Indianapolis - Mayor Greg Ballard begins his third year in office with a lot on his plate. He said his first priority remains public safety. While violent crime dropped in 2009, other crimes such as burglaries rose.
Improving the city's financial security is another concern.
"I thought the first six months of 2010 would be the toughest," said Ballard.
But with property assessments down and with the one-percent residential property tax caps taking effect this year, Ballard sees finances getting even tighter.
"So we're going to have to find more money going into 2011 or more efficiencies going forward," he said.
It's why privatization could be the word for 2010. The city is looking at new ways of managing the stadium and convention center, water works and the sewage treatment plant and downtown parking.
The mayor has also proposed increasing inspection fees on everything from taxi cabs to hotels, saying everything must be considered.
