State Senator Calls For Complete Budget Cut List

Senator: State Budget Office Says No List Exists

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indiana lawmaker is calling for the governor's office to release a comprehensive list of state budget cuts after she was told one doesn't exist.

Sen. Minority Leader Vi Simpson, a Democrat from Bloomington, said her office has been flooded with calls from constituents asking for details about cuts made to education, state police motor carrier inspectors and public television, 6News' Kara Kenney reported.

But when Simpson asked the state's budget agency for a complete list of what's being cut and by how much, she said she was told there is no such document.

"I said, 'That's impossible. That's absolutely impossible,'" Simpson said. "We deserve that information. You deserve that information. I deserve that information."

Simpson said she sent a letter to the office of Gov. Mitch Daniels asking for a list of specific cuts, but has not heard back.

When Kenney asked to speak with Daniels on Monday, a state holiday, a spokesman directed her to a news conference on Friday during which Daniels addressed budget cuts, but did not discuss any kind of list.

I was watching the news tonite and his office has provided suggested cuts for schools. Such as privatizing/outsourcing janitorial, cafeteria services.

This is what we get when they transferred school funding from property taxes to the state budget.
