Alert preparer finds mistake in Indiana tax booklet

South Bend, Ind. - An alert tax preparer from South Bend has found an error on a worksheet for Indiana's IT-40 EZ booklet.

Dawn Williams tells WSBT-TV that she was doing taxes for a friend when she noticed the numbers weren't adding up. It showed her friend owed more than $800. Her instincts told her there was no way her friend could owe so much.

Williams found that on the Unemployment Compensation Worksheet "Box C" and "Box A" were transposed.

The Indiana Department of Revenue confirmed the error and says it has taken steps to make sure the error is fixed. The error is still in printed IT-40 EZ booklets, but has been corrected in worksheets online.
