There's talk that this may go before the State Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court as a test of Second Amendment vs. Fourth Amendment rights.

In any event, can we all agree that this is just a bad idea, no matter how Mitch, the NRA, and their backers spin it?

1. argh

this is crazy. let's all bring our weapons and leave them in the car while we're working. That way, if I don't get my way, or the boss gets mad at me, I can retrieve my gun to show him who means business. What a stupid law! Haven't we learned anything from Columbine or VA Tech?

2. If you have to keep it in a locked car during work hours

What the hell is the point of being allowed to take guns to work???? I mean, what if some psychopath enters your workplace? Who would be able to run out to their care and get their guns? Who came up with THIS idea and what were they thinking would be the purpose of this bill???? :crazy:

5. What about when you're going TOO and FROM work?

Do you not get that if you are unable to leave your firearm in your car while you're at work, your essentially banned from carrying your firearm the entire time from when you leave the house to go to work till you return home from work? Sure, maybe you know somebody that lives near your work that you could drop the firearm off at, but that's completely ridiculous.

Not to mention there have been several incidents around the nation that involved people having to leave their work/school in order to retrieve their firearms from their cars and then proceeding to put a stop to a crime.

3. I don't see anything wrong with it.

As long as you kept it in your car and had a permit to carry.
I'm a woman who was working second shift getting off at midnight. I often worked overtime and got off at 4:00 A.M. I had to drive alone through a rough neighborhood to get home. I was always nervous at stoplights and in the winter when roads were icy or the snow was deep. I wondered what I would do if I had a flat or if I had an accident. You can call me paranoid, but I would appreciate the personal security.

BTW, I do not believe that President Obama is trying to take away guns.

4. You make a good point. There are good reasons to have a gun in the car.

It's my guess that most people that have a gun in their car at work are carrying it for security to and from work.

Having said that there are plenty of people that will bash in a car window for the spare change visible in an open ash tray (let alone to steal a gun) and for a pro prying open a glove box takes only a couple of seconds and most trunks have remote latches once somebody breaks into a car.

I hope there are better ways to secure a fire arm in a car than simply locking it in the trunk or glove box.

6. The solution would be to not allow workplaces to ban people...

...who are legally permitted to carry concealed from carry concealed while at work. What, exactly, does such a ban accomplish? Not a single thing. Anybody interested in shooting people up at work will give exactly two shits about any such restriction. The people who go through the process of legally obtaining a permit are not the ones people should be worried about generally speaking.

and are there a lot of problems with security while in your car that would necessitate having a gun with you? :shrug:

8. Ever had somebody try to car-jack you?

Or maybe somebody else in a nearby car? You can forget about police response in such a situation. If your armed at least you have some chance of defending yourself.
