Homeless live in man’s backyard

BLOOMINGTON – An advocate’s decision to let several homeless people spend the night in tents he has set up in his backyard has angered some residents in a southern Indiana neighborhood.
Hal Taylor erected the tents behind his Bloomington home about a week ago after spending a night in jail when police expelled a group of homeless people from a city park shelter.
“I’ve been providing shelter for the homeless in Bloomington, because they’ve been denied any place to sleep in Bloomington by the city government,” said Taylor, a retired Episcopalian minister.
But next-door neighbor Mike Dyer says many who live in the section of the city’s south side are worried about their safety.
Eight to 10 people stay in the tents each night.
