Marion honors return of slain Marine

Updated: May 14, 2010 11:08 AM EDT

Marion - Hundreds of people lined a central Indiana city's streets as a hearse drove by carrying the body of a hometown Marine killed in Afghanistan.

Capt. Brandon Barrett's casket arrived by plane in Marion on Thursday, eight days after the 27-year-old died while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan's volatile Hermland province.

Barrett's uncle Glenn Haynes says the show of support from local residents was a great encouragement for the family.

Barrett's funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Marion High School. Grant County Commissioners have declared Saturday "Capt. Brandon Barrett Day" and encouraged all residents to observe the day in honor of him.

CPT Barrett would be alive today were it not for Obama escalating the war in Afghanistan.

RIP CPT Barrett, and my condolences to your family and loved ones. A great loss to our state and country!

2. Obama followed LBJ's disastrous path in Vietnam by escalating the war in Afghanistan
As in Vietnam, our troops are propping up an unpopular and corrupt regime. A wise President would have ignored the Pentagon war hawks, and the ones in his own party, and brought all the troops home. CPT Barrett would be alive today were it not for Obama's pursuit of neocon wars and of Bush's failed policies.

How many innocent civilians have been killed by Obama's murderous drones?

3. I'm as anti-war as the next liberal
but Blaming Obama for this soldier's death is just misplaced anger. If you have read Obama's books, you would know that this isn't Obama's choice. We have to remember that we are not privy to all information about these wars so I would never 'blame' the President for these unfortunate deaths. War is awful and death is possible. With humans, there will always be war.
