http://www.wthr.com/Global/story.asp?S=12993267Indianapolis - Indiana is getting $207 million in federal stimulus money to put teachers in the classroom.
That's good news for about 3,000 teachers that the Indiana State Teachers Association estimates were laid off after a $300 million state education spending cut.
But it isn't clear how many of them will head back to work. The state has until Sept. 9 to file a plan for distributing the money. Schools are expected to start receiving funds in November.
Exactly how the money is spent is up to each district, but executive director Dennis Costerison of the Indiana Association of School Business Officials says Congress requires it to be spent on school-level staff.
Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels opposed the latest stimulus funding but says he won't turn down the money.
