Elkhart - The Pentagon says a 28-year-old soldier from Indiana has been killed in the Afghanistan war.

The Defense Department says Pfc. Justin B. Shoecraft of Elkhart died Tuesday in Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan. It says he was wounded when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive in Kakarak.

Shoecraft was part of the 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, based in Vilseck, Germany.
