Jan 3rd it is?
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 01:05 PM by Rambis
The Iowa Democratic Party Central Committee will meet Sunday night to make it official: The Iowa Democratic caucuses will be held Jan. 3, the same day as the Republican caucuses, said Carrie Giddens, spokeswoman for the Iowa Democratic Party.

The date is a Thursday, instead of the traditional Monday, and also is the earliest in history, another sign of how desperately the early states are fighting to hang onto their first-in-the-nation status.

New Hampshire could still go Jan. 8, which would mean winning candidates in Iowa would have very little time to capitalize on their victories and losers would have very little time to recover from their losses.
If New Hampshire pushes its contest into December, Iowa for the first time would trail New Hampshire instead of precede it.

The early date creates other problems: candidates face the choice of campaigning during the December holiday season or leaving the voters in peace.

And Iowa college students, away for the holidays, may play a lesser role in campaign activities.

1. I am disappointed...
I know it must be a pain for the county coordinators, but we MUST remain flexible and honor our tradition with NH. This date, if set in stone, may as well be Jan-14, because the media will have already left, as will have the majority of college students, as will our chances of remaining first in 2012. I am afraid if we let go now it will be forever.

For those of you reading, I for one am a regular attendee to conventions, and will remember your votes when you are up for re-appointment to the State CC. Don't sell Iowa short.

7. I agree Seth - Jan. 3rd is fine IF NH goes several days AFTER Iowa
but what if Sec. of State Gardner set's NH for the 5th? or the 3rd? I hope our SCC members are ready to call an emergency meeting to determine what to do THEN.

I will be asking the IDP for a list of votes and voters from the 'conference call'. I will want to know who voted how as well.

12. .
Please tell me this means you are going to vote me off the island. I could use a nice, warm bubble bath... scented candles... some raunchy chick-lit brain popcorn... and peace and quiet.

Press one on your touchtone keypad for yes - Press two for no

13. I guess it depends on your vote!
I know you fill a thankless and often overly-dramatic position, but I am sooo sick of the people we vote to represent us doing nothing while traditions, money, and the candidates gear up to leave the state.

I don't suspect you are one of those folks, but thoase are the ones that I'll be voting against!

15. If you are lucky!
Seriously though, I am not voting for anyone for any leadership role that didn't stand up for Iowa remaining first, it will probably be too late at that point, but what else can I do?

10. Well I better wait for a confirmation from Don or Betty
Repugs could have booked the place a week ago if they wanted it.

3. Here's a question: Why couldn't the 6th work?
Sure, it's separate from the Republican one, but that's okay, because we'll be bigger news, as we'll be later-breaking news in that case. It's a Sunday night -- most churches have early masses, so that would settle that -- and it gives a little bit more breathing room.

6. Then you could make both caucuses as could the Repugs.
I am not sure how we would tell Repugnants that they could not come into our caucus and change registration at the door. If for no other reason we must both be on the same day.
