There have been lots of reports about the Democratic State Central Committee conference call scheduled for tonight. It is likely, I think, that the SCC will vote to put our caucus on Jan. 3 along with the Republican Party of Iowa. Also of note, however, is a feeling of disenchantment that this is something being shoved down the throats of the SCC membership.

I guess all questions -- or at least the most immediate -- will be answered once the call concludes tonight. I have expressed my displeasure that this meeting is being done via a conference call in lieu of a face-to-face meeting. I have no first-hand knowledge if others were also dismayed or joyful over the process of the meeting. My thought is that deciding the date of the first-in-the-nation caucus is one of the most important that will face the membership of the SCC -- and not something that is only important in political circles. Because of that, I wanted a face-to-face meeting.

Some would argue that I'm being little more than a pain in the ass. LOL!

For those who have not heard, an overwhelmingly majority voted last night to move the Iowa caucus to Jan. 3. So, mark you calendars and plan your beverage consumption for New Year's Eve accordingly.

What are the chances of having it moved from Jan-3rd if NH (or another state) moves up any closer, or jumps us entirely? Are there any contingencies in place to protect Iowa's status, or are we planning on going Jan-3rd whether it screws us long-term or not?

I am glad we moved to an earlier date, but I still think we need to remain flexible until the overall picture is a lot more clear. I am getting the impression that the deal is sealed and it's Jan-3rd no matter what. Am I right?

4. We are set to go on Jan. 3rd

Given that the SCC and party leadership was placed in a situation we did not want to be in -- that is, that other states had already violated the original calendar -- we made the choice that best served Iowa and the process. Think of it as taking lemons and making lemonade -- the best possible outcome of a less than ideal situation.

I know everyone involved has extremely high hopes that the chaos that has ruled the calendar will now settle and we can get on with the business of running the caucuses with intelligence and integrity, just as we have in the past.

Without you and some other pushers and shovers I don't know that moving to January 3rd would have occurred!
