Edwards in IC Monday with Bonnie Rait, Jackson Brown

I'd like to invite you to join me and special guests Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne this coming Monday in Iowa City. It will be one of several stops I'll be making throughout the state as I meet with Iowans to discuss my plans to build One America where everyone has a chance to work hard and get ahead.

I'm honored to have Bonnie and Jackson join me on this trip. Bonnie is a widely respected Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Jackson has been making music for more than three decades and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007. Both will be performing at all of our stops throughout the state.

2. In '04, Edwards was at North HS

campaigning for veep. His special musical guest was Jon Bon Jovi. That guy gets HUGE musical names if nothing else.
One note about that event, a couple of weeks after it, I was at Dem HQ here in Davenport and was talking to a very young (18) lady about why she chose to get involved in the campaign. She told me that it was because of Bon Jovi. She said she attended North, stayed late just to see him, and "sorta liked that Edwards guy". So it worked at least for one young lady. Of course, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne appeal to mostly older folks like me, but maybe they can help some young people make up their minds. I will be there on Monday. And I will try and give some sort of coherent report afterwards.

Talked my daughter into going with me to see them at 7:30 at Sinclair Auditorium on the Coe campus. Played her Browne's and Raitt's songs. Talked to her about nuclear issues.

Should be good.

4. RE: Saw the show - Bonnie rocked the house & then Edwards rocked

Saw the show in Cedar Rapids at Sinclair Auditorium on Coe College campus. Full house. We were up in the balcony, it was nearly full and the main floor was full. Sheriff Zeller introduces Jackson Browne. He does a antiwar number and then introduces Bonnie Raitt. They do two numbers together and then the roadies hand her the electric guitar . . . and she blows the roof off the place!!!

Then Bonnie introduces John Edwards and he comes out and rocks the crowd with his "you got the power - take the power back from the big corporations" speech. John spoke about 15 - 20 minutes and then threw it open for questions. A couple of the questions were convoluted enough to make me wish that Edwards planted questions like Hillary. Then John asked Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt out to do a closing number.

Took my son (home from college for Thanksgiving) and my youngest daughter who will be 18 in June. He was leaning Obama and is now undecided again between Edwards and Obama. My daughter, like me, thinks John Edwards is the guy we need to fix this mess.

Very fun and high energy night!

I just think it more than a little ironic that Edwards would say ""What are we going to hear from the Senators who voted with Bush and Cheney on this? 'If I'd only known then what I know now.' Yeah, we've heard that before."

Yeah, I know where I've heard it before - him. It's so easy for an ex-senator to run on votes he woulda/shoulda cast and at the same time run on ideas he failed to support as a sitting Senator.

11. But, but..

I know Clinton voted for the IWR, and for the record I am not defending any particular candidate anyway. It's this "oh we've heard that before" type of thing that bugs the hell out of me and comes across as condescending (at least to me) since we heard it from HIM.

I'll gladly support Edwards if he get the nom, I just prefer that he didn't. And if THAT is close to breaking the rule, it sure as shit has been broken by anti-hillary dems a half a dozen times already.

12. He is talking about the Iran vote and comparing it to the Iraq vote

He is saying that we are hearing the same things from Bush about Iran that was said about Iraq and he has learned from his mistake, but Hillary hasn't since she voted for the Iran thing.

Edwards is correct and I'm happy with Biden & Dodd for voting against (and even with Obama for almost voting agaisnt) the amendment.

15. Learning from mistakes...

From 2000-2004 alone he voted the wrong way, or didn't vote at all, on enough issues that are important to me to make me very hesitant to accept any apology regarding his lack of, or lapse in, judgement while in office. To me, he still hasn't shown any real application of good judgement other than talking about it in a lot of speeches, speeches which clearly reflect the public sentiment at the time they were made.

Edwards sounds great, he really does, but I want to see him start out in front of something, not run to the front once it becomes popular. Sometimes leaders must do something that is not politically expedient and get past it in order to effectively lead.

I realize that these feelings aren't shared by too many other Iowans in this forum, but I know I am not the only one. In interest of a peaceful Iowa DU forum, I'll leave it at that. I'll take any further discussion of Edwards off-line, or to the larger forums.

Surprised by the crowd and by the fact I saw nobody I knew. Great speech I thought.
Oops we went to Iowa City. Huge crowd. My kids were very impressed.
