Have some Thanksgiving Day Skinny!

Culver slips out, Vilsack steps out

Iowa’s top Democrat — that would be Chet Culver — stunned other top Democrats when he cut out early — very early — from the big Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. He was sitting in a prominent table with prominent people, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, when he left them shortly after he gave his own remarks early on at the long, long dinner that was jam-packed with thousands of the party’s patiently faithful. Among those he abandoned at his table: his guest, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, chairwoman of the Democratic Governors Association. Why did he bail? Skinny’s source says it had something to do with a sports event. That’s just too good to check out, but not good enough for another Skinny source who was there. “If I had to sit through that thing, he should have had to, too. It was a long night.” But Culver’s wife, Mari, stayed throughout and afterwards was chatting up the John Edwards people, adding to the speculation that the uncommitted First Couple has a favorite candidate. … Meantime, Culver’s predecessor, Tom Vilsack, is shown dancing with his wife in a video the Hillary Clinton camp is putting out about how easy it is to participate in a caucus. “Dancing is hard,” one of the segments says, and it shows the Vilsacks. But “caucusing is easy.” Skinny’s verdict: The former governor isn’t yet ready for “Dancing With the Stars.” ….
