Can you folks help me with voting in the primary in IA?
I have depression & social anxiety so it's sometimes hard for me to get things figured out without crayon drawings to follow. :eyes:

I live in Waverly in Bremer County. I need to register again since I just moved here two years ago. Does anyone know where I would go to do this? (I know, sounds simple enough, eh?)

I've never voted in a primary election before and don't even know when Iowa's primary election is. Can someone please tell me when that is? Is it pretty much like voting in the general election? I can probably find out where to go to vote when I register, right?

Sorry for sounding like a hugh moran!!11!! But, I want to make sure that I do this. Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks all! :hi:

1. Contact Edwards Waterloo Office

Address: 425 Franklin, Suite B, Waterloo, IA 50703
Phone: 319-287-5767
Email: iowa@johnedwards.com

That's the one closest to you. They'll help you register to vote (or you can wait until you get to caucus to register if you wish) and provide you will all the answers to your questions. Also, I bet they'll be happy to provide you will a list of Bremer County supporters that you can get to know (or even get you in touch with them to make sure you are comfortable going to caucus).

The Iowa Forum is full of Edwards supporters, I'm positive they will all help you :hi:

2. Call the court house in your county
Someone there should be able to help you. Sometimes there are voter registration cards in the phone book. Check for that. Iowa doesn't have primary elections as such. Instead, there are caucuses in each precinct, which are gatherings of Democrats from your own precinct to decide on a candidate. They will be held on January 3, 2008. To find your precinct, contact your county's Democratic committee, probably called Bremer Co. Democrats. They can tell you what time your caucus will be and where it will be held. You can probably use Google to find your county's Dem committee. You may also find information on your caucus on your preferred candidate's Web site. I know the Obama campaign's Web site has a link to click to find out about your caucus.

3. Greetings, ThingsGottaChange!
from a fellow Edwards supporter. Debi is right, the Waterloo Edwards office will be very happy to help you, and I can vouch that they are some really pleasant and friendly folks.

At the caucus, you can be as involved as you want to be. After signing in, all you really need to do is support your candidate - my guess is Edwards will be quite viable in most Bremer County precincts. But if you want to get more involved you can. The process is interesting and more low key than it's sometimes made out to be. I hope you enjoy caucusing, and that you'll want to post on the Iowa forum again.

4. Thanks so much everyone!
I will get in touch with Edward's Waterloo office and have them lead my by the hand! I really don't understand the process very well but, I'm damn well going to make sure I do whatever I can to get a Dem in the Whitehouse. Preferably, Edwards, of course!

The only reason I don't post here much is because I don't understand alot of the whole political process and don't want to sound like, well, a hugh moran! But, I do know what's been done to this country since 2000 and I have been horrified ever since.

If anyone wants to talk to me and help me out of my shell, feel free. It's hard for me to get started with something I don't understand very well. But I would like to be a part of all this, in some small way.

You guys in this forum are awesome!!!

5. Welcome TGC.
I felt the same way you do. I didn't really get involved in politics until Shrub got in. I never really did anything until 2004 when I put up a yard sign and for me that was a huge deal. I'm not sure why, but it was. I also was too bashful (scared) to even go into the crowd to see the candidates in person. I caucused for the first time and I was really scared, but it was simple. They just had you sit with all the other supporters of your chosen candidate.
Then we worked on what we wanted to put in our platform.

After Shrub was reselected, I threw myself into 2006. Phone calls, donations, lots of bumper stickers, yard signs, the whole nine yards.

BTW, Edwards is my guy too.

If you did not have the Edwards button I would be reticent to tell you to caucus:)Only joking-

Good luck- I have had more people ask me about the caucus this year and there seems to be a prevailing negative attitude about it when they ask? All you have to do when you get to the location (waterloo edwards people will be able to tell you) is find the Edwards people and stick with them. No one will hassle you or try and make you switch candidates if you do not want them to. I have never seen confrontation between caucus goers.
You are not an undecided voter so you will be able to sit back and enjoy good conversation with people who want real change for America and that (IMHO) is the Edwards camp. Fair play to you!
