Will the winning candidates still love us in the morning?
O it might be sad after they have flattered us and treated us so well for months now. The January winds will blow cold through the corridors bedecked with tattered bunting. But some of the ones whose affections we have spurned will say we were never sincere even though we had told them all along that we just wanted to be friends and only ate their cookies and took their flyers to be nice.

3. One of our prominent local Dems always has the
candidates at his house (not all the candidates but the few he likes) and there cookies and sandwiches and chips and salsa etc. are to be had. The HRC event had cupcakes. Most of the events around here have had food it seems.

7. We went to a Hillary event this summer that was catered
We hadn't eaten all day. It was around 2PM and hot as hell. When the catering finally started I grabbed 2 burger buns and at the next station the meat server took one bun off and told me it was one per person. I wasn't mad, a little flummoxed. Others were mad. I chalked it off as one of the odd little bits that would happen.

8. I've never had THAT happen. Maybe the way I habitually glare
at people has something to do with it.

16. We are bringing shrimp and Belgian chocolate and Mystic
potato chips and ginger ale to our caucus. Our county chair ruled out barbecue ribs since that is for the sheriff's events.

2. At least they won't be calling me anymore
I'm looking forward to January 4. The phone won't be ringing all night and all day, and my mailbox won't be full of flyers from every candidate and everyone with an agenda. I love that Iowa is still first in the nation, but I'm growing weary of all the attention. I'm ready for a break.

4. It has actually been two solid years of politics here in Iowa
since 2006 was a hard fought and bitter election year (at least in our district) and we had innumerable calls and party tasks. And now 2008 looms ahead with all the dimly seen but ominous glinting of the sharp partisan fangs and the cruel political weaponry, all partly illuminated by the cold lights of a perverted science.

9. I guess I'd better switch to short Reaganesque soundbites.
For instance: "I paid for that mike!"

or "I paid for that, Mike!" something like that.

12. We were curious about the Dodd New Year's event in Dubuque
but had already arranged a dinner party here. Later on we will drink Thunderbird and Wild Irish Rose and play Scrabble. watch TV, and sing a new New Year's song (why is there always only one?) to the tune of "Deutschland ueber Alles."

You WILL have a Happy New Year,
The damn best New Year in the world.
Etc.

and then take hot showers and go roll in the snow.

13. Ahhhh, reminds me of living in Montana where
after a long day of skiing that while sitting in the hot tub we would jump out, roll in the snow, and jump back in! We even made dares about running around the block or across the street - ring the neighbors door bell and running back to the hot tub! (Okay, look, I was 16 or so...)

I am sure we'll see a lot of activity in fact.
