Cedar Rapids drivers rated safest

Congratulations Cedar Rapids people. Allstate Insurance rated you as the safest drivers in America. According to them, CR motorists have an average of one accident every 15 years, far below the national average of one every 10 years. I always knew there was a reason I liked that town.

1. That can't be true, My sister in-law (outlaw) lives there

She can't drive a straight line sober.
She has wrecked 10 cars in the 20 years that my wife and I have been married.

Watch for a PT cruiser with MO plates on it. Her father keeps loaning her cars until she wrecks it then he has another for her.

3. I was in a rush to get two of my kids to gymnastics this morning and

the Handimart near my house had all this congestion and police directing traffic. I was like :wtf:

I later found out they were giving away free gas because of this survey. D'oh :silly:

6. They aren't anymore. I've driven by it three more times since then

I missed it! :( Bummer! But hella cool for them to do that! You know, I really do feel safe driving in CR most of the time, even on 380. My only rant is about Collins and Blairs Fairy during "rush hour".....but that has more to do with lots of traffic on a small road than bad drivers...regardless I try to avoid those roads as much as possible during that time!

4. I grew up in Cedar Rapids...

and I moved to Boston for a short time in college. Upon returning to Cedar Rapids, I had "adjusted" to Boston driving habits. I was honking at everyone in CR! The pace there is very laid back--as are most of the drivers.

Cedar Rapids drivers are very courteous, and the people there are generally very kind.

Also, this small city is laid out in a very organized way. There are four quadrants (NE, NW, SE, SW), and it is SO easy to find your way to anything--even if you are clear across town.

I grew up on the NE side, but I had lots of friends on the SE side. Normally, by car, it would take me 20 mins to get to their houses. However, I could get there very easily by moped, because the streets are so well laid out and organized. Drivers were always very patient with the moped-riding crowd--back in the late 70's/early 80's.

CR is a very nice place to raise children. Lots of friendly people.

7. I grew up on the SE side and now live on the NE side. The Handimart

was C Ave and Boyson Rd (it is a new Handimart).

I was also a moped driver as a teenager. It was great.

8. Well hey, that Handimart is a stone's throw from my....

...childhood home. I grew up in Bowman Woods.

I'll have to tell my brother--who still lives in CR--about the HandiMart gas.

Hey! Maybe we passed each other on the road on our mopeds! I had a green Honda Xpress. :)

All I can remember is that my moped was yellow. I don't know the model but it was an older one then most of my friends had because my sister (4 years older then I was) had it first.

The good thing was it would go faster then the newer ones. They wouldn't go over 25 mph and I would fly by them at a speedy 30 mph.
