Let the kids start paying their tax bills NOW!!!
Just in case you missed it, a bill was introduced in the Iowa Senate Monday, by State Senator John Putney(R), to require people riding BICYCLES to get a LICENSE!!! Anyone using a primary or secondary road to ride, would need to have a license that would cost $10 and be good for 5 years.

Senate File 2006 - Introduced
1 An Act requiring bicyclists riding on state or county highways to
2 have a license and providing for fees and penalties.

Now, the fun part is THIS:
d. Fees collected by the department under this section
shall be deposited in the road use tax fund.

The Republicans have cut taxes SO MUCH that we can't afford to fix roads or bridges anymore, so NOW they want to tax KIDS to pay for the roads!!!

And, because of this bill, Sen Putney says you can use bike trails for free. WRONG!! Unless he gets a few county governments to go along with that, here is where he's wrong:
"The Raccoon River Valley Trail has a user fee of $2 per day, or $10 for the year. All proceeds go to the Conservation Boards in Greene, Guthrie and Dallas Counties and are used for trail maintenance and improvements."

I don't know if fees are charged for using other bike trails in Iowa, but I do know about this one.

However, Gov Culver wanting 1 cent from our deposit bottles going to the DNR for ENVIRONMENTAL purposes is "...a new tax..."
<snip>
"Among those fees includes a plan that would add a 2-cent tax to purchases of bottles and cans - part of which would go to environmental programs - and increase Iowa's 5-cent deposit to 8 cents.
<snip>
"Consumers would only get 8 of their 10 cents back under Culver's proposal. One cent would go to bottle handlers or redemption centers, and the other penny - totaling roughly $20 million - would support outdoor projects under a program known as the Iowa Resource Enhancement and Protection program."

I think I feel a letter to the editor coming on....

2. This crap needs to stop
We need to kick the Pubs in the but in November...and we need to do it everywhere, state, congress, senate, president. If Johnny Doe (D) was running aginst Spud Nelson (R) for class president at Boone Middle school, I would be stumping for Doe! This kind of hogwash is just the kind of things that gives me the democratic fever.
