Fallon says Boswell hurts Dems' long-term prospects
Let the games begin..

Democratic congressional candidate Ed Fallon said Friday that Democrat incumbent Leonard Boswell is hurting the party's long-term prospects by running for re-election with potential retirement and redistricting nearing.

Fallon, a former state representative from Des Moines, urged central Iowa Democrats to choose a new nominee in the June primary. He argued that Boswell could leave the party without an established incumbent in 2012 if he retires before new U.S. House district lines are drawn.

"We're going to want a Democrat in this district with some capacity build a base in preparation for 2012 and beyond," Fallon said during taping of "Iowa Press" at Iowa Public Television in Johnston. "I think it's time to move on."

Iowa is expected to lose one of its five U.S. House districts when federal redistricting lines are redrawn after the 2010 census. If Boswell, also of Des Moines, is re-elected and retires before the 2012 election, it could leave U.S. Reps. Steve King or Tom Latham, both Republicans, with an advantage, Fallon said

1. I think this is undoubtedly true and the people of Polk County
had best look to their defences!

2. People just assume that Boswell will retire and Latham and King will keep their seats
Democrats that is. I think Steve King (I can't believe that I am about to say this) is smart enough to realize that this might not be the case and is looking at possibly running for Governor or replace Grassley in 2010.
