2. That was a hoot. LOL
Somebody should tell them that the last time I heard of anybody selling their children, it was a lady in Davenport who wanted to trade her kid for a wedding dress.

3. No politician not in a liberal area who wants to get re-elected

will ever say publicly that marijuana should be legalized. That would be a kiss of death. Nor will they say that a drug that is much more damaging should be controlled - alcohol.
I have always called the so-called "War On Drugs" (tm) Nixon's Revenge - a rat hole to throw money down that no politician will ever speak against. Billions and billions of dollars pissed away, thousands of lives ruined and nary a politician in sight to stand up to it.

5. Wow...
Gotta agree that it was an entertaining read. That said, seriously Tom ... selling kids? For POT?! I've never done weed yet, and I would know that that'd have to be some DAMN GOOD WEED to be persuaded to sell your kid to get some of it.

Really, this letter sounds more like it would've been authored by Grassley than by Harkin.

6. It's hard to hate on Harkin..
You gotta respect a man that's done as much for us as a guy like him..

But come the fuck on, selling your kids for pot?! Sometimes the practice of politics makes me sick. I know, I know, Harkin is from another generation, one that may honestly believe that marijuana is evil and makes you dance all crazy and have sex like in Reefer Madness (and yes, I have that movie on DVD, lol).

But geez. It's about time to stop the silliness when it comes to pot. According to most studies that I've read, and in my own personal life experiences (with both drunks and potheads), marijuana is a LOT less damaging physically and emotionally than alcohol.

I can't wait until I'm an old timer, perhaps by then things will have changed.
