County Convention Credentials...
Did anyone receive their credentials yet?

I guess I am assuming that everyone's convention is held around the same timeframe.. I believe Linn Co is Mar-15 or Mar-22. I would check for sure but our website is STILL down.

Check in here if you are going to your county convention, and let me know if you've received your packet!

1. Got mine earlier this week
I think all of the County Conventions will be on the 15th. I heard at our central committee meeting last night that the IDP is going to be extra careful to make sure the right number of delegates from each campaign move on to district and state.

3. That seems nearly impossible.
What about the Edwards supporters? I am sure some of them have picked a new candidate.

And I would also guess that there are some former Clinton supporters who would now lean Obama too... and vice versa, of course. What's to stop them from moving forward? Geez, just showing up at the convention is liable to get you in unless this year is a lot different than years past (and it may be, I guess).

4. All county conventions are on March 15
And when you get you credentials depends on when the county gets all the packets together and sends them out.
The reason I know this is that I checked with another delegate yesterday and he said that our stuff had just gone to the printers' and should be mailed today. That bothers me because we have many newby delegates and it will be short notice.

5. Thank you!
I just got a 'Thank You' letter from my county chair for being the precinct chair at my caucus a couple of weeks ago.. so I don't expect anything to be all that prompt. I wonder who prompted him to do that.

7. I'm going for the first time ever
I was a delegate for John Edwards and now I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do at the county convention. The Obama and Clinton campaigns have been calling me asking me to turn to their candidate and I'm not sure what I'm "supposed" to do.

Do I stay with Edwards even though he's left the race, or do I choose?

Anyone have any advice...I lived in a primary state until the last presidential election cycle!

Bettie

11. You may not have a choice but to move to a differnet candidate if you want to move on to
District/State conventions

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/IA-D.phtml

<snip>

Saturday 15 March 2008: Democratic Party County Conventions convene in each county. Each County Convention chooses the county's delegates to both Congressional District Conventions and the Iowa State Convention based on presidential preference. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be viable. Delegates assigned to a non-viable candidate will realign themselves to another candidate.

County Conventions choose both the county's delegates to the Democratic Party Convention of the Congressional District of which the county is a part as well as the county's delegates the Iowa State Democratic Convention; each presidential contender receives a number of the county's delegates to each respective Convention (District or State) in proportion to the number of county convention delegates supporting said candidate.

8. Linn Co. Convention Calls are printed...
We are slapping labels on them and putting them in the mail tomorrow.

Don't look for the website to come back up anytime soon. I hear the webmaster's a crackpot.

9. First time, newbie delegate here too
and I also have the dilemma of who to support as an Edwards delegate.

Since Senator Edwards has not endorsed either remaining candidate, I intend to continue to support Edwards. In reading over the information sent about the county convention, it sounds like there can be a realignment process similar to the caucus - maybe someone in the know can comment? If this is the case, well, then as far as I'm concerned the Obama and Clinton supporters are free to try to convince me that their candidate has the more progressive agenda.

15. Edwards
It will be interesting to see how many Edwards supporters make it on to the state convention as an Edwards delegate. Since he hasn't endorsed either candidate, and had plenty of support here, I would think there would be a case for at least 15% of his supporters to stick it out and see what he says/how the race goes. They may be a deciding factor at the state convention, who knows.

What will also be interesting is how many Clinton supporters are now Obama/Obama supporters are now with Clinton. I think both of them have changed their campaign styles and messages enough to have their support fluctuate.
