IA - 1st District - Brian Kennedy (republican candidate) on Tom DeLay

On 5/12/2005, a visitor asked, "It appears that many Republicans want to keep Tom DeLay in power because of the amount of influence he wields and because of the financial resources he has been able to raise for the party. Many Democrats also want to keep him in that position because he is being increasingly regarded in the public eye as a repellant symbol of abuse of power and the public trust, and can hence be pointed to as a reason to vote for change. What amount of merit do you see in these perceptions from a tactical and strategic standpoint? In essence, do you feel Tom DeLay has become a liability, or remains an asset?"

Brian Kennedy answered: As a strong leader of the majority party in the House of Representatives, Tom DeLay remains an asset to our country. The House works best when it is led by strong leaders like Mr. DeLay and Speaker Hastert. Under their collective leadership, they have reduced taxes, reformed Medicare, and provided the men and women in America’s armed forces the resources necessary to wage the war on terror and to defend the homeland.

I have made it clear that my view is that the complaints against Mr. DeLay should be a matter that is settled in the House Ethics Committee - not tried by partisan operatives on the front pages of the national newspapers. When I first took on Mr. DeLay’s critics, a dear friend asked how I could stand by the Majority Leader in light of a scathing Newsweek article she had recently read. This past week, I couldn’t help wondering if she still put as much credence in the Newsweek piece when that publication apologized for the false reports it had published regarding alleged prisoner abuse at Guantanamo Bay.

I believe that the political operatives should call off the attack and that Tom DeLay ought to focus on the job he was elected to do. As for the rest of us, we should let any charges of impropriety be reviewed by the bipartisan House Ethics Committee

1. Shoot the messenger...
So Newsweek got one little fact slightly out of context in an otherwise good article about Guantanamo, then everything the magazine ever reports is totally 100% wrong.

If that's the case... let's turn our attention to Fox News and the many BIG mistakes they make with their reporting.

3. If the House Ethics Committee did its job
then we would not have to be talking about Delay.

5. OK - I went to his site, now I must bathe.
Why do the pukes even run candidates? They all look like and talk like clones. White, male, rich, anti-choice, pro-military etc, etc. Running robots would probably be cheaper. Then maybe the taxpayers could save money on their pay.
Are there any real humans in that party?

6. Remember that the 1st District leans Democrat
So the three republican candidates trying to out-rightwing each other is humorous. I say let 'em go and nominate the most conservative candidate they can, then we'll have our nominee ask the District if that's what they want to see in D.C.
