5th anniversary vigils
Were any vigils in Iowa well attended? Mrs. Lib and I were able to attend in IC for about two hours. I think during that time our ranks may have swelled to a dozen.
I know school is out, but this was truly disappointing. Has the so called success of the surge (I know it ain't working) dulled our senses. Is the lack of news coverage winning?

1. I think people are starting to get that Sisyphus feeling.
I dunno...I think we are getting tired of it. Tired of the war and tired of the struggle to stop it. Add to that, the lack of coverage in the news and it sort of feels like it's fading away (outof sight, out of mind).

Also, could there be a feeling that by January 21 it will change anyway?

2. Cedar Falls had 120 people
in their very visible location. They got coverage from KWWL, the Waterloo Courier, and KCRG, and I believe all three had at least a short blurb about nationwide vigils/protests.

But, yes, there may be some discouragement. Who would have believed five years ago that we would still be mired in Iraq, still all the sectarian violence, thousands and thousands of deaths and injuries, virtually nothing gained?

Five years ago, about a third were opposed to going into this war. About two-thirds now oppose it. Didn't they see this coming? Was nothing at all learned from Vietnam? I despair for a country where so many cannot learn these hard lessons and insist that war and violence will solve deeply rooted conflicts.

4. Good turnout in CR
Can't give exact numbers, but there were more at this vigil than at the one last year.
